Juntos por Lambayeque

Con el objetivo de reducir los altos índices de desnutrición crónica y promover los Objetivos del Desarrollo Sostenible ODS 2: Hambre Cero, la Red Internacional de Estudiantes por la Paz - Red Espaz, creó el proyecto social “Juntos por Lambayeque”, el cual está orientado a ofrecer desayunos nutritivos y ayuda humanitaria a la población lambayecana ubicada en el norte del Perú, en especial, a los grupos más vulnerables.

Según datos oficiales del Ministerio de Desarrollo e Inclusión Social 2022, Lambayeque se encuentra dentro del cuarto grupo de departamentos con tasas de pobreza extrema entre 1,9% y 3,2%, compartiendo estos índices con otras regiones como Arequipa, Cusco, Lima Metropolitana 1, Madre de Dios, Tacna y Ucayali. A pesar de los muchos programas sociales ejecutados por el gobierno central que buscan atender necesidades específicas de nutrición a nivel nacional, no se ha logrado reducir la gran desigualdad existente en el acceso a una alimentación nutritiva, en nuestra región.

Además, la situación en estos últimos años se ha desbordado por factores como el Covid-19 y la llegada del Ciclón Yaku a nuestra zona, hechos que han incrementado la pobreza en la región, visibilizándose mucho más en las zonas rurales como en los distritos de Incahuasi, Cañaris, Illimo, Mórrope, Mochumí, Olmos, entre otros.

Sabemos que la pobreza se vincula directamente con el acceso a una buena alimentación de la población, se necesita enormes esfuerzos para que los índices de pobreza puedan disminuir, mientras tanto el gobierno, sociedad civil y todos debemos trabajar para ello, hoy también se requiere que nuestros niños, jóvenes e incluso adultos mayores cuenten con una buena alimentación. 

En este contexto, recae la necesidad de que la sociedad civil, en este caso la Red Espaz Chiclayo, intervenga a través de proyectos que busquen reducir estas brechas, por ello es que en “Juntos por Lambayeque”, mes a mes brindamos ayuda social a diferentes caseríos y distritos de nuestra región, priorizando las zonas rurales. 

CICLÓN YAKU

En los últimos años, los fenómenos naturales han golpeado fuertemente al Perú. Este 2023, el fenómeno Ciclón YAKU dejó a miles de familias damnificadas tras los desastres naturales como las lluvias extremas, tormentas eléctricas y desbordes de ríos con mayor intensidad en el norte peruano, en la región Lambayeque, según reportó el gobernador, se registraron 16,784 personas damnificadas y 49,929 afectadas; en cuanto a viviendas, 1172 quedaron destruidas, 2569 inhabitables y 12,387 afectadas. A la actualidad, aún muchos damnificados siguen viviendo en carpas temporales, con servicios públicos restringidos y buscando formas de generar ingresos, pues muchos de ellos, vivían de sus sembríos, los cuales fueron arrebatados por las fuertes lluvias.

Por tal motivo, Red Espaz Chiclayo en coordinación con más de cien voluntarios, se organizaron para ofrecer desayunos y alimentos nutritivos para las familias damnificadas, a la fecha se viene beneficiando a más de 5, 000 familias de la región Lambayeque, en coordinación con diferentes organizaciones e instituciones locales. Cabe mencionar, que la entrega de estos desayunos no solo buscó mejorar el acceso a alimentos nutritivos ante una situación de desastre, también fue un medio para llevar un mensaje de esperanza y optimismo frente a circunstancias difíciles, donde miles de familias lo perdieron todo.

Promover el voluntariado y la ayuda social son objetivos que cada año esta organización peruana busca impulsar en los estudiantes y los jóvenes voluntarios, motivándoles a realizar acciones por el bien común, promover la cultura de paz y a construir juntos sociedades justas, pacíficas e inclusivas. 

Asimismo, los voluntarios buscan mayor apoyo para beneficiar a los niños, niñas, madres gestantes, adultos de la tercera edad, así como también, solicitan ayuda para alimentar a los perros que encuentran en las calles, en estado de abandono.

"Together for Lambayeque": volunteers promote humanitarian aid during natural disasters in Peru

With the objective of reducing the high rates of chronic malnutrition and promote the Sustainable Development Goals SDG 2: Zero Hunger, the International Network of Students for Peace - Red Espaz, created the social project "Together for Lambayeque", which is aimed at providing nutritious breakfasts and humanitarian aid to the Lambayeque population located in northern Peru, especially to the most vulnerable groups.

According to official data from the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion 2022, Lambayeque is among the fourth group of departments with extreme poverty rates between 1.9% and 3.2%, sharing these rates with other regions such as Arequipa, Cusco, Metropolitan Lima 1, Madre de Dios, Tacna and Ucayali. Despite the many social programs implemented by the central government that seek to address specific nutritional needs at the national level, it has not been possible to reduce the great inequality in access to nutritious food in our region.

In addition, the situation in recent years has been overwhelmed by factors such as Covid-19 and the arrival of Cyclone Yaku to our area, events that have increased poverty in the region, becoming much more visible in rural areas such as the districts of Incahuasi, Cañaris, Illimo, Morrope, Mochumi, Olmos, among others.

We know that poverty is directly linked to the population's access to good food, enormous efforts are needed so that poverty rates can decrease, while the government, civil society and all of us must work for it, today it is also required that our children, youth and even older adults have a good diet. 

In this context, there is a need for civil society, in this case the Red Espaz Chiclayo, to intervene through projects that seek to reduce these gaps, which is why in "Together for Lambayeque", month after month we provide social assistance to different villages and districts of our region, prioritizing rural areas. 

CYCLONE YAKU

In recent years, natural phenomena have hit Peru hard. This year 2023, the YAKU Cyclone phenomenon left thousands of families affected by natural disasters such as extreme rains, thunderstorms and overflowing rivers with greater intensity in northern Peru. In the Lambayeque region, according to the governor's report, 16,784 people were affected and 49,929 affected; in terms of housing, 1172 were destroyed, 2569 were uninhabitable and 12,387 were affected. At present, many of the victims are still living in temporary tents, with restricted public services and looking for ways to generate income, as many of them lived off their crops, which were taken away by the heavy rains.

For this reason, Red Espaz Chiclayo, in coordination with more than one hundred volunteers, organized themselves to provide breakfast and nutritious food for the affected families. To date, more than 5,000 families in the Lambayeque region have been benefited, in coordination with different organizations and local institutions. It is worth mentioning that the delivery of these breakfasts not only sought to improve access to nutritious food in a disaster situation, it was also a means to bring a message of hope and optimism in difficult circumstances, where thousands of families lost everything.

Promoting volunteerism and social aid are objectives that this Peruvian organization seeks to encourage every year in students and young volunteers, motivating them to carry out actions for the common good, promote a culture of peace and build together just, peaceful and inclusive societies. 

Likewise, the volunteers are looking for more support to benefit children, pregnant mothers, elderly adults, as well as asking for help to feed the dogs they find in the streets, in a state of abandonment.
